A Loving and Easy Approach to Gluten-Free Veganism

vegan cookbook

You’ve asked for our cookbook. It is here. A vegan cookbook with eight chapters, 143 pages and 100 recipes, this cookbook is designed to not only share the flavors of Sanctuary Bistro but to also make it easier for you to replicate it at home, to learn, and to create your own alternatives. Often, the recipes provide tips for you to prepare the way you want to.

Sanctuary Bistro’s Recipes for Everyday Living is also packed with alternatives to the recipes and compassionate living tips. Because being vegan is about more than what we eat.

Here is what a few of our friends said about the advance copy:

“You can imagine my delight when I heard the Hortons were working on a cookbook. Barry graduated at the top of his class at a prestigious cooking school, worked as the Head Chef at the beloved Stanford Inn gourmet restaurant, and ran a catering business for many years-all before opening Sanctuary Bistro. Barry’s purpose in life is to bring amazing food to the people, and this cookbook is just one more way he is pouring his heart and soul into that calling.

No longer will you need to travel across land and sea to the Bay Area to enjoy Chef Barry’s creations. Now you can bring the flavors of Sanctuary Bistro into your own home. In this book, you’ll learn how to make your own artisan pâtés, imaginative appetizers, vegetable-inspired soups, creative entrees, decadent desserts, and more.Set a date with your kitchen, and bring all the aromas, textures, and flavors of Chef Barry’s recipes to life.” – Michelle Cehn, photographer, blogger, World of Vegan

“I appreciate that this book incorporates their passion for food, their love for family, and their desire to spread compassion. What a great foundation for cooking and meal sharing! The recipes that are mouthwatering, yet still practical for everyday use with familiar, easy-to-find ingredients.” – Toni Okamoto, Founder, Plant Based on a Budget

“I may be a bit biased because I’ve known Jen and Barry for years – I know their passion, I know their care. This cookbook is an excellent expression of their values, talent, and attention to detail. The recipes are fantastic, with something for everyone! I’m so proud of them for the work they’ve done in this book, and for what they’ve created with Sanctuary Bistro.” Sid Garza-Hillman, Author of “Approaching the Natural: A Health Manifesto” and “Raising Healthy Parents: Small Steps, Less Stress, and a Thriving Family”

What it looks like

Taking inspiration from Chef Barry’s own personal recipe journal, and from our community, this cookbook is more than a collection of recipes. It includes stories from family and friends of the restaurant, and tips for a more compassionate life. Barry has composition notebooks filled with recipes and now you will have one of them to take home.
